No Soliciting!

It’s halfway through the summer and I’m really getting tired of all the solicitors that come to my door.  I can see them from my office window, so I don’t bother to come to the door.  I’ve been wanting to make a vinyl sign for my door, so today I decided to actually do it.

First I scoured the internet for an idea and found what I wanted to do.

Then I opened my Silhouette software and created my design.  I cut it out with black vinyl with my Silhouette Cameo machine.  After lifting up the vinyl while leaving the cut letters in place, I then found some white contact paper (couldn’t find clear) to use as transfer tape to lift the letters and place them on the side of my house.  (Tip: Stick the contact paper to your pants or other clothing a couple times to make it less sticky.  You’ll be glad you did this!)

You will want to be sure to clean and dry the area where you are putting the vinyl letters, or they may not stick so well.

I placed the letters onto the “clean” house siding next to my doorbell and carefully pulled off the contact paper.  I used a credit card to make sure the letters were firmly sticking and then I still had to be careful to make sure I didn’t pull the vinyl letters up when I took off the contact paper.  Then I folded the contact paper over so it wasn’t sticky, placed it over the vinyl letters and went over it again with my credit card to make sure they were firmly sticking.

(I think they are slightly crooked, and I could have made it more straight, but I was so excited to get it on the house, I didn’t pay close attention.  It’s okay, though.  I’m not feeling picky today!)

That’s it.  It’s so cute I had to go outside and look at it a couple times!  Now let’s see if it actually works!
