If you are using Gmail, I can show you how easy it is to access all your email accounts from one place!
First let’s go to your gmail. One way is to type the url into your browser: gmail.com
You are probably already logged in, but if not, just log in with your password where indicated.
Click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner.
Click on Settings.
Select the Accounts and Import tab.
In the “Check mail from other accounts” section, click “Add a POP3 mail account you own.”
A box will pop up where you will add your Email address. Then click on Next Step.
Enter your username, then enter your password.
You will also need to add your Pop3 mail settings for your Incoming Server that talk to your web host server. You can get those credentials from your web master or from your web host server.
Now you have a few other options to choose from. Here’s my recommended settings:
- I don’t prefer to leave copies of my messages on my server because it will fill up and you will need to go in and delete from time to time unless you are set up for unlimited emails. If you don’t leave copies of message on your server, they will be deleted when you retrieve them through your gmail account.
- Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail – Keep checked. If you can’t get it to work that way, then you will have to uncheck that option and use the unsecure credentials from your web host server.
- Label incoming messages – Check the box if you’d like to easily see which emails in your inbox came from this account.
- Archive incoming messages – Usually I don’t check this box because I want to see them in my Inbox. However, with this email I just want them to go straight to the folder for that email address.
- Click Add Account. If you get an error message while getting set up, click the Show error details link to find out more about what’s not working.
- If you get a message saying that POP is disabled, go to the settings page of your other email account and look for a way to enable POP.
- If you get a message saying that POP is unavailable, your email provider may not support POP. You can also try other ways to move emails to Gmail such as having your email forwarded from your web host server.
Once your account has been added, you’ll be asked if you want to be able to “send mail as this address”. This lets you compose messages in Gmail, but have them appear to be sent from your other email account. Click on Next Step.
Make sure the Name you want for that email address is added and check the box for Treat as an alias. (For more information, you can visit https://support.google.com/a/answer/1710338?ctx=gmail&hl=en&authuser=0&rd=1)
Click on Next Step.
Next, add your SMTP credentials for the Outgoing Server that you would have gotten from your web host server.
One final step: You will be send a confirmation code to your email address, so you will need to retrieve that email address and add the confirmation code OR just click on the link in the email. That’s it!
Gmail will check your other account for new emails periodically. You can see when the other account was last checked from the “Accounts and Import” tab.
Now when you compose an email, you can choose which email address it comes from. Click on the address you want to send from and then compose your email. Congratulations, you did it!
